merging .ndt files
Hello!
First, what exactly is contained inside .ndt file and how to post-view the content? Second, how to merge .ndt files (using Pro-HPC)? |
Re: merging .ndt files
hi azmir
the file contains normal distances from wall boundaries (for low-reynolds or two-layer models of turbulence) see appenix (c-2) in the user-guide if you want to see what is inside this text file in prostar use get user data within post menu unfortunately you will have to write some simple script to edit the file into a proper format because .ndt file contains only one row telling: total_number_of_cells cell_number value cell_number value cell_... so you need to filter it the proper form of user data is I'd say 10000lines file each line consists of cell_number and value hope it helps |
Re: merging .ndt files
Thank you for your response!
I can view the .ndt file but I don't know of what use is that file? I mean, how can it be useful to a CFD user? Secondly, I also found a .bshl file in directories of this model. It is an ASCII file and I couldn't open it and don't know what use is this file or if it is important to begin with. Lastly, do you know how to merge these files into one big file because I'm using Pro-HPC and it's not clear how to merge .ndt or .bshl in Pro-hpc (in case it is important to merge these files prior to post-processing). |
Re: merging .ndt files
Hi Azmir,
You cannot merge a .ndt file or a .bshl file, and you don't need to either. They contain information which is useful to STAR. For example, the .ndt file contains normal distance from walls, the calculation of which can be time consuming, so to prevent STAR from doing this at the start of every run the information is stored in a file. In general, see appendix C of the user guide to find out what information files contain. |
Re: merging .ndt files
Thanks jimbob!
In my user guide App. C there is no mention of .bshl and hence my previous query. The .bshl cannot be viewed at all (ASCII) and that's why I couldn't help but wonder if I should post-view it in prostar in some way or another. If it's not useful at all to the user (i.e. junk bytes of .ndt side-effect), I will just delete it. If the .ndt is only useful for STAR and not for the user, then I should just delete the thing. Or, should I take a second look at it for a deeper analysis? |
Re: merging .ndt files
What is your problem, Azmir?
Just forget it and delete the files you do not need! matej |
Re: merging .ndt files
Woo! Pardon me for double-checking and asking for 2nd opinion! Thousand apologees!
