Hello Fred,

I have used both ICEM and now Pro-Star, what I believe is that for very simple geometries, pipe bend, airfoil, ICEM is very easy and straight forward, but if you have the CAD data of a complex geometry, detailed radiator, engine, helicopter, than Pro-Star will trim a mesh to that surface, so think in terms of Pro-Star trims to the surface, thus you do not need to worry about trianlge size or quality on your surface, where as building a tet mesh, you go from the surface out.

Thanks Kevin. I had a problem when i try importing a cad data(iges) in proam saying "error;too many splines" No surface of the geometry has been imported i can see only points in the window.Hoe to overcome this?

One more thing regarding post processing: How to calculate massave, areaave etc., of flow variables at the boundaries(not at the cells)? Is there any calculator available like the one in CFX here, to determine such things?

Regards Fred

If you have an IGES file then you should use the surface module in STAR-CD (ie pro-surf) to read the IGES file in and convert it to a useable triangulated surface. The IGES conversion option in pro-STAR/pro-am was never very good and has since been disabled in favor of the pro-surf one. pro-surf can write out a database file (.dbs) which pro-am can then read in directly.
