Star-CD XDisplay error
Hi all,
I have installed Star-CD 3.26 on my computer, and am having trouble getting the xdisplay to work. Whenever I try to run Prostar from within Starlaunch, I receive an error "Error attempting to open X display". I have tried using Exceed, MKS XVision, SCO Xvision and am now using Xming. I believe i has started each of these successfully (with the exception of Exceed which gave me trouble) but Prostar will not work for any. Am i supposed to somehow tell Prostar where to find the xdisplay server as i have not seen any options to do so. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks |
Re: Star-CD XDisplay error
I've seen it work with Exceed and Xvision. Its probable that you don't have the Xserver (whichever you use) start "on demand". prostar doesn't know anything about the x server. You need to set the X server so that any type of X operations will automatically kick it off.

Re: Star-CD XDisplay error
I use exceed. I start up a x-server before starting prostar. That works for me, and I've found exceed more stable than x vision.

Re: Star-CD XDisplay error
I have installed STAR-CD 3.26 and STAR-CD 4.02.. and i am using MKS X Server which is installed with STAR-CD 4.02..
and there are not any problem using each of them.. Try last version of MKS X server.. |
Re: Star-CD XDisplay error
I'm not sure that there is a way to tell Prostar to use a different X server without reinstalling it. Usually you have to specify the X server during the installation. To my experience Exceed is the most stable. What was your problem with it?

Re: Star-CD XDisplay error
Exceed couldn't load a server when i tried. Neither could MKS. Don't know if this has anything to do with vista.
I'm thinking i may have to try uninstalling then installing again and hope that works. |
Re: Star-CD XDisplay error
Probably it really has something to do with Vista and it's UAC. Actually I'm not sure that even Star-CD itself is officially approved to rund under Vista (don't have release notes for 4.x version at hand)
