Crack problems

Hello everybody.

I'm a begginer with Starcd and I want to know how to solve crack problems. I tried to refine my geometry and after I had crack problems and I don't know how to solve it.

regards

Re: Crack problems

If you refine your model with CMREFINE instead of CREFINE it will not create cracks. Check the help on how to use CMREFINE, it is quite different.

Re: Crack problems

You did not mention the version of STAR-CD you are using or the size of the object you are trying to mesh. Here are a couple of things that have worked for me (may not work for you in this case): 1. If the object you are meshing is small, the subsurface layer and other parts may be within the tolerances of the mesher. Therefore use VSCALE to increase the size. You can then scale it back down during the geometry write or after it is built successfully use VSCALE again. 2. Some problems arise because when the subsurface is built it writes its own lines and points. If they don't over lie the models lines and points exactly it will cause cracks. A step I always use is after the subsurface is built I delete the lines and points associated with the subsurface.

I am not sure these will work for you. However, if you want to see just what a pain they are do a search on this board on cracks and you will see long discussions on attempts to repair them.

Tom
