We use both. As a very broad general rule, AMD multi cores tend to scale better because they have higher memory bandwidth (and higher intercore communication speed) while Intel cores run faster individually, but hit memory and scaling bottlenecks quicker also. While I have yet to find an application that does not run on both platforms, I do find that which platform is better is very application dependent and has a lot to do with whether your application is memory bandwidth sensitive or compute sensitive. You need to benchmark the codes you run to find which one makes most for you.
