halo cells

Hello. I'm use ccm+. During the calculation the log has such string as "3225 halo cells" and then start to update intefaces. The namber of those cells changing. This string became, for example, each 50 iterations. What is halo cells? And tell me please, what is mean in ccm+ "reversed flow" on such boundaries?? Thanks a lot for feature answers!!
