I am trying to run a CFD study on tractor trailer in ANSYS fluent.
tractor: power unit/driver cabin trailer: the storage unit being towed by the power unit truck: referring to tractor+trailer combination In order to run the CFD study, i have chosen a truck off the market and created some simplified Solidworks geometry. I have encountered a problem whereby i am confused as to how to treat the set of back wheels on the trailer. The existing geometry in that region is such that the wheels have been extruded so that their bottom half is circular and top half rectangular. I have kept the top half of the wheels rectangular to model for effect of the drag that will be generated from mechanical parts that provide power to the wheel like the drive shaft and the axels which connect pairs on wheels on either side without explicitly creating their complex geometries. A low-pressure region is expected to form behind the trailer so it is important to provide a path for the fluid to move through the wheels by using the cut-extrude feature. However i am not sure what would be the best course of action. I have attached some sketches of some possible solutions to this. Any advice on how i should tackle this would be greatly appreciated !! |

Looks like a full model, use symmetry. then use the cost u benefited from symmetry to increase details in the wheels.
