Doubt with a Pelton wheel simulation in Ansys Fluent.

I'm currently doing a project using Ansys Fluent and I'm trying to simulate the jet of water. I've made a cylindrical rotating region around the turbine itself and then a box enclosure. Being this my first CFD project and my first time using Ansys, I'm having some trouble with the cell zone conditions, boundary conditions and mesh interfaces. I don' t know exactly how to proceed with the simulation setup and make the turbine rotate. Do I have to select the "Mesh motion" in either the cell zone of the rotating region or the boundaries? This may be a simple setup of a rotating wheel but I'm hard stuck here. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks you all! |
- Why start with such a complicated multiphase case? This is very complicated. As a consultant with 25 years experience, I would not even start, unless my customer has a huge bank account, is patient and is willing to listen when I try to manage expectations.
- Better start with a single phase 'simpler' thing like a pump or fan. Otherwise you'll get frustrated quickly. - Forget Fluent. Better use ANSYS CFX for rotating equipment. It is specifically designed for this. I consider the setup to be more intuitive and as a result easier to use Also, since you might need transient analysis, I prefer CFX above fluent, because it has better options to create small intermediate files in order to quickly analyse intermediate results. Fluent only has the option to create intermediate .dat-files with all variables, whereas mostly only velocity pressure and volume fraction are relevant. As a result Fluent will eat your hard disk space. - One main question remains: are your rotation axis and gravity aligned? If not, then there is no easy startup possible from a steady state. |
