Model a Perforated Cone: Please help

Dear All,

I am going to model a perforated cone. The flow (gas) transports through a perforated cone.

01. As the cone diameter varies with streamwise direction, do I want to specify 'loss model' along streamwise direction?

02. How can I get empirical formulas for Resistance Coefficient?

I would be much grateful if you can help me to clarify those.

Thanks.

You can get information on resistance coefficients from manufacturers of this equipment or your own test data. You can also estimate it from basic fluid mechanics - for instance assuming perforations behave like lots of little oriface flows in parallel. Expect a large margin of error when you do this, of course.

Dear ghorrocks,
Thanks a lot for the reply. Actually, the applying a perforated cone is to increase the pressure drop and so I don’t have more data.
Ok, I’ll try with your suggestion.
Thanks again.

Oh yes, and of course there is another option - do a simulation of the actual perforated design just to get the resistance of it, then use that resistance in a larger system model.

Dear ghorrex,

Thanks again for your sugssion. I desided to do experiments and try to get the resistance.

I will try CFX model after then.

Thank you very much.
