"The DISPLAY environment variable is not set. "

I am going to install ANSYS 12.0 on a High Performance Computing Cluster.
I can only connect to the server by using putty or VNC. Under the VNC, after i typped "sudo sh INSTALL", it returned :

Code:

>>>--->  Error:

          The DISPLAY environment variable is not set.
          In order to run the GUI version of the installation,
          this must be set correctly.

          If you wish to use the silent install, please use the -silent
          install option.  Please see documentation for usage instructions.

You need XWin. I use cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com/), and fire up the XWin host before starting CFX.

does the Xwin host run on my local laptop or on the Cluster?
I have installed Cygwin 1.7.15 on my laptop. Should I fire up the Cygwin on my laptop first?And then starting the CFX in it ???
Thank you!

On my machine it is start/Cygwin-X/XWin Server. For this option to be available you have to have installed the XWin stuff in cygwin. It is not installed by default so you have to enable it.
