Hi all,

I am attempting to assess the effect that fuel/air mixedness have on the combustion characteristics of a gas turbine combustor. I know this is a complex problem and have tried to decompose it as much as possible in terms of method validation.

I have just completed a species mixture validation case (propane stream mixing with coaxial air stream) using a variable composition mixture and got really good results in comparison with experimental data.

I am now looking to validate a simple combustion case using the Burning Velocity Model and have come up against a problem. There doesnt appear to be any information on how to simulate both mixing AND combustion, most studies seem to treat the two in isolation and use a predefined reaction from the reactions list to create the relevant flamelet library.

The main problem I have is that I have conducted my mixture validation by modelling the dispersal of the propane jet using a transport equation howver the documentation stats this should not happen in a reacting case as components modelled using this method will not be considered, evidently not acceptable when it isthe fuel I have modelled in this way.

Can anyone define a method of performing a simulation of this nature?

Thanks,

Chris

Sorry, should also state that this is a Pre-mixed combustion case but I want to simulate the pre-mixing aswell, not just assume a homogenous mixture.

I have trawled the literature and also attempted to work it out for myself based on the ANSYS Non-premixed combustion tutorial but to no avail.

Cheers.

Send a message via Skype™ to Magma
Try combustion tutorial from ANSYS and study combustion modeling too. That might help.
