Symmetry function
 

Hi everybody,

I have a question relating to the Symmetry function: I want to simulate a small portion of a big volumen fill with two gases.

My domain is a parallelepiped (find attached the geometry), can I applied the symmetry condition to all the four vertical parallel faces?

Yes. Just make a separate symmetry plane for each surface.

Also have a think about whether a periodic boundary condition is more appropriate. It depends on what you are modelling.

I din't really understand you:

- are you talking about creating symmetry planes in the Design Modeler?
- I want to study the interaction between two gases in a porous domain, do you think periodic boundary is a good choose?

You will need 4 symmetry planes in the solver. Whether that is define din designmodelled, CFX-Pre or whereever does not matter.

The choice between symmetry planes and periodic boundaries depends on what you are modelling. Symmetry planes stop motion perpendicular to the boundary but periodic boundaries do not. You have to choose whichever is more representative of what you are modelling.
