Uploading CFX transient files(.trn) in to Fluent

Hi,
I have a transient data(*.trn files, which are in binary format) from CFX and recently our research group changed their mind and opted for Flunet, so now we have Fluent but not CFX.

I would like to convert my .trn files, which are in binary format, to ascii format. I am trying to use Fluent and found an option 'cfx data' in the import of Fluent, and there I am able to upload only my results (.res) and definition(.def) files, but not my transient(.trn) files.

Could any one please help me out to convert my binary files to ascii files using Fluent or Tecplot focus?

Thank you very much in advance!

You cannot convert binary trn files to ascii. It is a propriety format.

You can only load the trn files if they include a mesh. If you did not include a mesh you will not be able to load them.

You might be able to export them into another format such as CGNS. Have a look at the solver manager export options.

Hi Glenn,
Thank you very much for the reply..

Unfortunately my .trn files doesn´t include mesh.

First I used to upload .res file in to CFX solver manager and then upload the .trn files as time steps, and then I used to export trn files to ascii format using patran exporting option...

Now since we do not have CFX licence, I am trying to do the similar thing with Fluent and I am able to read the .res file, but there after I am unable to find any other option to read the .trn files to fluent.

All I needed is to convert those binary files(.trn files) to ascii files, so that I could use my own post processing codes to read the data and continue with my analysis..

Thanks again for your reply...

I do not know of anything, other than CFD-Post, which can read trn files and take the mesh from the res file.

Hi Glenn,
Thank you so much for your comment..... sorry for late reply, last week I was away from work....

I am trying to contact fluent tec support to know if there is any possibility to read trn files(with out mesh) in to fluent.

Thank you again!
