Hi,

I need to model the airflow through a system which includes the air passing through a heater, basically a mesh screen. I plan to treat the heater as a porous domain or a sub-domain with the momentum loss model, both are the same basically, because the heater will cause a pressure drop (it'll also be modelled with the heater switched off).

I would also like to include the temperature increase of the air due to it passing through the heater. I've had a quick look at what CFX offers but the only thing I can see is a heat source. But the only data I have about the heater is the inlet and outlet air temperture at a single volumetric flow rate, nothing else.

Anyone have recommendations on modelling this?

Thanks.

The only thing your data point fixes is the q = mdot*cp_air*(Tout - Tin) that the heater imparts into the flow. You really dont even need that data point if you assume all the heat goes into the flow and that it is evenly distributed from your domain.

Sub domain source:
heat /unit volume = q/(subdomain_volume)

The q is up to you, I assume based on the operation of the heater.
