pre-mesh

3 Attachment(s)
hi,
first of all, I have very little experience using Simulation Software.
I want to make a 3d-Simulation of a circular Body in a control volume. The geometry is pretty simple and it did not take Long to draw. I was also capable of generating an unstructured mesh without using blocks. The Quality values of which started at around 2.5 (Picture below).

MY PROBLEM: I want to write a .cfx file to be able to read the file in CFX-pre. The ICEM Output function will only write a .cfx5- file (does not matter if I say that the Version is previous to 5.5), which cfx-pre does not recognize. (CFX Version and ICEM are both R14.5)
How can I solve this Problem???

I have a second question regarding the Quality of the mesh. Is the above mentioned 2.5 good enough??? Furthermore I would like to generate a mesh using blocking and pre-mesh, but I am unable to understand how does the blocking function works. When using the pre-mesh first no volume mesh is generated and second when I right-click on pre-mesh and want to generate a mesh from the pre.-mesh the interior Body is just ignored. This does not happen when using the normal mesh Generation tool.
How could I mesh this Body using pre-mesh??? Do i have to generate a second block using the geometry of the Body?? and second for such a Body I do not know which curves I shall associate the edges to.

thank you very much for your help! + have a nice day!

The quality of mesh required depends on the simulation. If you are doing a simple single phase simulation it is tolerant of very poor meshes. If you are doing a free surface simulation with surface tension any element more than 10% off a cube is a bad idea. So you have to evaluate it for your specific case.

thank you ghorrocks!
could you help me out with the .cfx5 issue??
ICEM CFD will only write a .cfx5 file and my CFX v14.5 needs a plain .cfx.
How can I convert a cfx5 to cfx???

When you load the mesh in CFX-Pre, select the file type as "ICEM CFD", not CFX.
