I am trying to refine a mesh on a simple model of a butterfly valve. I have set the mesh adaption characteristic to alter 'wall boundary' and run the solver.

Once the tolerance is reached the mesh adapter triggers an error message that says

'The ANSYS CFX mesh refiner exited with return code 1.'

In the output file it states

ERROR: Couldn't find "Wall Distance" variable in the results file.

I have looked in the file further and this variable is an outputted variable.

Try doing this with the SST turbulence model. SST does a wall distance calculation.

i was trying to refine the mesh to reduce y+ values for high velocity.

The error appears to have nothing to do with that. The error is saying it cannot find the wall distance variable, so you need to try something to generate the wall distance variable. Wall distance is calculated as part of the SST turbulence model so that is why I suggested using that (if you are not doing so already).

Hello,

I'm also having a problem with CFX mesh refiner on a Linux Red Hat workstation. I get the following error:

refiner.exe: /home2/cfx5test/unixbuild/v145/CFX/src/refiner/src/./Elements/TriColumn.ixx:669: virtual void TriColumn::findSplitFaceTopology(const Element*, int, Post*&, Element**, int*): Assertion `success && noOfSides == 4' failed.

+--------------------------------------------------------------------+
An error has occurred in cfx5solve:

The ANSYS CFX mesh refiner was interrupted by signal ABRT (6)
+--------------------------------------------------------------------+

Any idea

Stephane
