how simulation ship motion?

hi
we need some information about ship motion simulation in cfx 14

ghorrocks May 22, 2015 07:23

Yes, CFX can do it.

A vague question gets a vague answer.

hi dear
we want simulate the ship motion (heave and pitch)in calm water and wave.in this moment we made the domain and cylinder as sub domain.we want to this cylinder have motion same ship and slide to main domain. but we dont know the setting in cfx to do sliding .
thanks

There are two main ways of doing this:

1) Model the boat at a range of pitches and heaves and get the motion coefficients. Then use a ODE solver to solve the motion using the motion coefficients. This is by far the easiest way to solve it, but means that you have to assume the ship motion can be modelled with a set of simple motion coefficients. This cannot always be done.

2) Model the ship as a rigid body and do a 6DOF (degree of freedom) model on it. This is much more complex to model, but can handle a wider range of conditions (including when simple coefficients are not accurate). There are examples of how to do this sort of model in the CFX tutorials and more examples are available from CFX support.

Try the example "Modelling a buoy using the CFX rigid body solver"
