Periodic or full circle modell?

Hello,

I have two rings which are in rotating. The inner ring is in contact with the outer ring by a thin tube:

In the real, these rings ar very thin , it will have very high element number mesh, so I would like to calculate it with periodic boundary conditions. (with a 10degree model for example). But there is the tube between the rings...

Could you give any suggestions to solve it? Can I use the periodic BC with the using of tube too?

Thanks
Roland

What is the flow doing?

But on the face of it this flow does not look periodic so you will have to model the whole thing.

When you have long thin features like this you use hex meshes where you can stretch the mesh in the long dimension. That keeps your mesh a manageable size.

The real geometry is the flow field of a hydarulic clutch. The model (attached to this topic) is a simplefied geometry.

By the way, I agree with you fully. I had a discussion one of my colleagues in this issue, and I would like to have a confirmation from an expert CFD user.

Thanks a lot Glenn!
