Hi! I am currently designing a micro-turbojet engine. I have chosen a centrifugal compressor for the same. The most popular way to model these blades is to first input the parameters in Vista CCD and then create a BladeGen model from the same. The default settings for BladeGen have 'create hub' and 'create all blades' as unchecked. Hence when I create a DesignModeller model from the BladeGen, I get only the blades without the hub. Is there any way for me to generate the BladeGen model(from the Vista CCD) with the hub being present??? (I wish to export it to the IGES format)

In DM, use Import BGD > Creat Hub = Yes.
Normally BladeGen does not control the hub solid, only providing the hub curve.

Hi! I'm sorry, but I'm new to the whole ANSYS Workbench thing. The thing is when I create a BladeGen model from Vista CCD, I cannot save it as a separate .bgd file. Hence, I cannot import it into DM. A little more detail would be welcome. Sorry and thanks!

Please read the manual or ask Ansys support for more training.
Because I am not using Vista-whatevers, I have no idea why you cannot save BladeGen design as .bgd file. I guess you will find it in "Your workbench filename_files" folder > dp0 > BG > TS.

My advice is that do not trust the Vista-whatever programs in your turbomachinery design job. They are from PCA Engineers in UK that I know very well, but they are very much preliminary and inaccurate.

Hi guys
I'm new in bladegen software and I want to model a centrifugal compressor in this software but unfortunately I can't find any manual or tutorial of bladegen (even in software's instalation directory and the help button doesn't work!!) Can anyone help me on this? I really appreciate if you can share some tutorial files of bladegen with me

Hi! I am no pro at BladeGen. But I did manage to successfully model a centrifugal compressor and I'll tell you I did it.
Step1: Open Workbench
Step2: Drag and drop a Vista CCD component system onto your work bench(you'll find it under Component Systems).
Step3: Double click on blade design and enter your parameters. Then click on calculate and then close Vista CCD.
Step4: Then right click on Blade Design --> Create New --> BladeGen
Step5: Save the project.
Step6: Drag and drop a new 'Geometry' component system. Double click on geometry and Design Modeller will open up.
Step6: In the Blade Editor tool bar, click on Import BGD. Go to the folder where the project that u saved is stored. Find the BladeGen file and import it.
Step7: In the options that you will find on the left bottom corner, Set
Create Hub --> Yes
Create All Blades --> Yes
Create Fluid FLow Zone --> No
Step8: Click on 'Generate'.
Step9: Finally, Click on File --> Export and save the file as int the IGES format or the .igs format.
You can open the .igs file in any of your other modelling software such as Solidworks or SolidEdge or Catia!

Thanks for your constructive help, but my problem is that as I give the performance and duty parameters to vista ccd , it diverges or in some points it gives me a geometry which realy differs with the actual impeller, so I dicide to model the real impeller in bladegen and when I go there I just get really confused with lots ofrequired parameters , and btw did you modeled the diffuser as well as impeller in your simulation? Cause I'm going to model the whole compressor stage containing impeller and diffuser , thanks again for your time buddy

I see some of the variables you can input are a touch ambiguous.

Hi
You can find some guidelines in your Ansys instalation directory or instead you can easily search " Ansys turbo systems" in Internet , you will find the document which contains several hits about Ansys Design modeler , blade Gen and vista .
But as my experiences with vista ccd , I should tell you that this software is useless for large compressors and it may help just on special small machines like turbochargers which are used in automotive industries

Dear Brett
If you mean geometric design tools you may try CFTURBO software , but if you need tools that consider Aerodynamic performance of Centrifugal compressor then you may try one, two or three dimensional CFD codes, for 1D codes, most companies use their "inhouse" softwares (like Vista CCD which belongs to PCA company I guess) or their benchmarks which are not available as Comercial code outside. For 2D design codes I can introduce MISES software which is based on non viscous blade to blade simulation , you can also use softwares like Vista TF , which solve the Euler equation in hub to shroud orientation. Finally for three dimensional viscous simulation you can use Ansys cfx software which offers convenient and reliable solution for your problem.

Thanks Aria,

I've got CFX. I was more talking about design tools in so far as ones which allow you to specify the performance and then the software returns a proposed design.

I'm currently trying to import an existing solidworks model into CFX Turbo for analysis and struggling with it. Have you done that before?

My difficulty is specifically drawing/selecting hub and shroud contours for the flow path. For some reason my solidworks model isnt allowing me to select lines and profiles.
