Sending ANSYS 16.0 Files

Hi all,

I can't find a suitable method to send my files to a friend. I have so many projects in one workbench and I've done a CFX analysis (Geometry> Mesh> Setup>Solution>Results).

Can't use dropbox, my system doesn't allow it (don't ask!) - any other suggestions seriously welcome (can't wait to send this work off!)

I assume your problem is that the file size is too big to send by internet easily. Note that systems like ftp are much better at transferring large files than email, dropbox or anything like that. So ftp is the approach I would look at, I have transferred GB files by ftp many times. But if you have a slow internet connection or the files are too large for even ftp your options become limiting.

You can remove all the meshes and results from the project and the total project would be much smaller. Of course he/she will have to rerun the meshing and simulation to regenerate the results.

If you want to send the results with the project then I suspect you will find it easier to burn it to DVD or USB stick and use either sneakernet (hand carry it to them) or snail mail (post it to them).

You might get a bit of compression by using a good compression software like gzip or 7zip, but as the files are already compressed binaries you won't get much more compression out of them.

You can also archive the Workbench project into a *.wbpz file, in Workbench go to File > Archive. Here you will be asked if you want the results to be included in the archive file or not.
