Joule Thomson Effect - Solidification of CO2 - Dry ice blasting

Hello Everyone,

I am trying to create a simulation to show how liquid carbon dioxide solidifies into to CO2 - snow (aka dry ice). Does anyone know if it is possible to do this with cfx?

Liquid CO2 enters a tube with an inlet pressure of 70 bar. In the tube agglomeration of the then (due to the Joule thomson effect) solid carbon dioxide particles should occur. Does someone know if it is possible to show a phase change of fluid to solid CO2?

I have read it is generally possible to achieve evaporation with the Antoine equation. But I do not know if this applies to solidification. Also I do not know exactly how to set up the solid CO2 material.

I would be very grateful of any responses.

There are no solidification models built into CFX. You are going to have to try to change an existing model (presumably a condensation model) to handle it by changing model constants and other details.

I assume that the solidified CO2 exists as a small particles which can be modelled as a lagrangian or eularian particle rather than a large solid lump.
