Suitability of OpenDX for viewing CFX 4.3 results

Hello,

I'm interested to know if anybody has experimented with or uses on a regular basis IBM's Visualization Data Explorer or its open source successor, OpenDX.

Having compiled a version (4.0.6) for DEC Alpha it appears a capable program but is it suited to viewing CFD results?

Initially I'm just looking to improve on the contour plotting from CFX 4.3, but could use the program more extensively if it's worth investing the time gaining greater expertise.

I would be very grateful for any advice or insight.

Regards,

Jonathan.

I think if you use the cfx-view you can get a good contour plot.

Two difficulties I have with CFX-View: a) The contours are not labelled and consequently determining with certainty the value of a contour is a somewhat tedious business involving changes to the colour range to coincide with a contour value.

b) It interpolates cell centre values to cell corners which affects the accuracy of both shaded and line contours.

I am looking for a solution that overcomes these points.

Regards,

Jonathan.

I also have problems creating plots with labelled contours. Can anyone share some hints and tips on creating these plots, even with other software?

Or should we urge a request of providing the possibilities within CFX-View and CFX-Visualise by AEA?
