Patch Groups for conducting solids.
 

I am trying to use two conducting solids with different thermal conductivity in a simple model. Heat is generated in one and passed through the other one and then on to flowing water that is used as coolant. I have found several references in the manual saying that I need to create different patch group numbers. The problem is that I can't figure out how to do this. I would like to do it in BUILD if possible.

I am using CFX-4.3 and I am a new user. I have been able to run the model with the conducting solids set at the same thermal conductivity. But get error messages when I try to use different thermal conductivity.

A way to solve your problem, is

In build give the two solids a uniqe name, i.e

SOLCON-1 and SOLCON-2. In your geometry file you will be able to find the solids and you can then manually change the patch group number for one of the solids.

You can also use user-fortran, when the solids have uniqe names they are easy to find.

I agree, changing the patch numbers in the geometry file is often the easiest thing to do. If you use meshimport (which I highly recommend) you can also use 3D user patches to keep track of blocks when they are reordered by meshimport.
