I am simulating an axial flow turbine; inlet and outlet as shown in figure. B.C: velocity inlet and Pressure outlet. Input inlet velocity=12.32 m/sec
inlet massflow rate from CFD-post: massFlow()@R1 Inlet = 0.5469 kg/sec outlet massflow rate from CFD-post: massFlow()@R1 Outlet=-0.5469 kg/sec inlet area=outlet area=0.037 m2 (same for both CFD post and hand calculation) inlet massflow rate by calculation = inlet velocity*area* density= 0.558 kg/sec (i understand i can take it same as cfd calculation) inlet velocity from CFD post : areaAve_y(Velocity in Stn Frame)@R1 Inlet 12.317m/sec (this is same as my input) outlet velocity from CFD post: areaAve_y(Velocity in Stn Frame)@R1 Outlet= 16.36 m/sec (This is where i am confused) The massflow at inlet and outlet is matching, i.e continuity is satisfied (can we say that? ). But the inlet and outlet velocity is not matching while the area is same for both inlet and outlet. Can someone explain what is happening here or how CFD-post calculates massflow rate from the expression. |

Obvious Question First: Is this incompressible flow or compressible?

This is incompressible flow.
