Back to the benchmark proposed some time ago in this forum.

Is there anyone who had the chance to perform the benchmark on a Pentium 4 ?

Just got a P4 1.5 ghz machine with 1 gig of ram. The benchmark I ran is Example 1 and 2 for TASCflow. Example 2 was completed in 52 seconds. This compares with an Athlon 1 ghz at 56 seconds. Have no other data, so it would appear the Athlon would be faster in the higher speeds...

How many cells in the examples?

I have been doing several different benchmarks on a Pentium 4 using Matlab 5.3, CFX 4.3, Ansys 5.5, CFD-ACE(U) 6.4 etc. The results general show that Pentium 4's are very good at large matrix operations. Here are some results (time in seconds)

8000 cells 35200 cells 866 MHz PIII (WinNT) 42.5 217.5 2x933 MHz PIII (WinNT) (1j sp) 32.3 160 1.1 GHz Athlon (Win2000) 28.6 155 1.4 GHz P4 (WinNT) 16.3 77.8 1.4 GHz P4 (Linux Redhat 7.0.92) 13.02 57.5

The the results I just posted were done using CFD-ACE(U) 6.4 this should not matter since most CFD codes perform the similar operations. The results were for two problems 8000 cell and 35200 cell for turbulent flow over a backward facing step 2-D.

I have also done a 3-D lid driven cavity (time in seconds) CFX 4.3

3-D LDC 866MHz PIII 244 1.4 GHz P4 76.2

Hi there,

We finally took some time to run the Benchmark test of October last year on our machine. You can find the original thread at: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forum/cfx_...e.cgi?read=392

Our system (bought in 1997): SGI Origin 2000, 8 MIPS R10000 195 MHZ IP27 Processors, 1 GB RAM

Software: CFX-4.3, IRIX 6.5

Results: 1187 Iterations, Total CPU time = 151 seconds
