labyrinth seal simulation

2 Attachment(s)
Hi to all

I'm trying to simulate a labyrinth seal but have doubts about right boundary conditions.
1. Using total pressure at inlet and static pressure at outlet (Pic. Initial) I face vortexes at the exit and artificial wall. I can't rely on such setup results.
2. I can use opening BC at the outlet, but I have no opening temperature value there.
3. I extrude the outlet and set free slip wall option for additional walls to pass through vortexes (Pic. Extruded). Anyway there are additional pressure losses inside this additional part of channel. So I have to choose a bit lower pressure value after additional part to make pressure before it fit to my value.

What way is better?

You could use a outlet. Then you do not need to specify a temperature as there is no back flow. Whether you can ignore the "a wall has been created" warning message will need to be determined, however.

Extend the exit much more far downstream in Option 1. If still reverse flows, put some artificial contraction to eliminate such flows. The reverse flow, if any, should be blamed to your design faults.

Get up early, grab a cup of coffee, turn on your computer, and off you go.
