Particle Track in CFX

Hi, I am currently involved in performing a CFD simulation of the hot/cold water mixing in a venturi shower mixer for unequal hot/cold inlet pressures. I am wishing to get a particle track of the hot and cold flows performing the mixing action, however, I am relatively new to CFD modelling and havent got the slightest idea how to do it. I have referenced ANSYS help and found many pages on particle tracking, but not a single page on the basics and how to get started. Could anyone please direct me to a tutorial or a help page where I could learn how to perform a particle track? Any help would be appreciated.
- Running ANSYS 13 & Windows 7 64b

Ansys help files have tutorials for particle tracking CFX tutorial 11 the butterfly valve.

If you want to see what the hot and cold water mixes and what the resulting temperature is I recommend you visualise the temperature field. Alternately you can "tag" one fluid with an additional variable and let it convect around with the flow, so even when the temperature has evened out this approach will show you where the water came from.

So I do not think particle tracking is a useful way of visualising this flow. My two suggestions are much simpler and easier solutions which will give better results.

The object "HEAT TRANSFER MODEL" is present in the object "/FLOW:Flow Analysis 1/DOMAIN:R31/FLUID MODELS/FLUID:m" but it is not physically valid.

Hey !

I am working on simulation of linear premixed pre-evaporated combustion chamber for gas turbine. I am simulating the premixer chamber. I need to verify that the fuel gets evaporated before it enters combustion domain. I want to track the fuel particles. I have set up all the boundary conditions. How do I go about particle tracking ?

Could anyone tell me how to track particles ?

Any help is much appreciated.

Have you done the tutorial examples? There are a few examples which use particle tracking.

I found some documentation of particle tracking in CFX. It explains only the theory behind particle tracking. Can you please post any link of tutorials on how to implement particle tracking in CFX ?

Also how to simulate the results for entire domain if I am using periodic boundary condition ?

I am attaching my domain which consists only of 72 degree cross-section. How to visualize the solution for entire domain ?

Tutorial examples are available on the ANSYS customer website.

They also cover dealing with periodic domains. In fact they cover all basic operations in the software, they are the place to start in CFX.
