Meshing

Hi all!

I'd like to generate a volume mesh by extruding a surface mesh. How can I do that with CFX 5.5.1 ?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Meshing

Hi Deborah

As far as I have experience you can't really extrude an unstructured surface mesh to create the volume mesh for you problem... that is what happens when you created an inflated mesh, but that's only up to a preset height, and and the spacing of the layers are a geometrical series, not constant.

You can create a structured mesh by using Patran volume meshing, I think there was a post about that recently. That involves first generating the mesh and specifying 2d and 3d regions, and then importing that again to set your boundary conditions and solver control.

good luck
