Default how to visualise the total pressure

Hello, everyone,

When I simulate the flow in a single square duct, in the CFX-post, the only pressure can be visual, but the total pressure cannot. I use CFX5.5 version.

To visualise the total pressure, how to treat with this case? Would you mind telling me your arrangement? It may give me some ideas to solve my problem. Thanks for your response.

You can visualise total pressure same way as static pressure... instead of clicking on the down arrow to get the variable drop-down list, click on the three dots just to the right and you'll get a list of all the available variables. You'll find total pressure in that list.

Yes, I have done as you said. I can find there are only pressure, pressure gradient X, pressure gradient Y and pressure gradient Z in the list of available. But I still cann't find total pressure in that list.

Then I dont know, its supposed to be there! You did look right at the bottom of the list, at "T" for total pressure? Because the list is sorted alphabetically and total pressure is not located with the other pressure variables...

Else you maybe got the special total pressure-less version of CFX 5.5.1 (at a discounted price?) ;-)

Hi,

Total pressure will not always be there if you are looking at a backup file (from a steady state run) or a transient output (from a transient file). In these cases, the file only contains the variables you specify. The final result file should have all variables, including Total Pressure (as Louwrens said).

Regards, Glenn

If you're running a general fluid case in CFX 5.5.1 you will not get total pressure (only when running ideal gas), as the relation for a general fluid for the total pressure is not trivial anymore (as it is for ideal gas). CFX 5.6 has more capabilities in this direction. So if you want P0 in 5.5.1 run with an ideal gas.

All,

Total Pressure is always there (look harder), even in a backup file (if you choose the full backup option, which is the usual). The calculation of total pressure is different for compressible and incompressible flow but for a general, incompressible fluid, the calculation is simple (Pstatic + Pdynamic).
