Hi all, I started using CFX5.6 yesterday. I did tutorial 1 wothout a problem. Today I started Tut 2 and landed into a problem that makes me feel so stupid!! The manual tells me that [p327, installation Guide]: - Click mesh then

Select: create name: inflated boundary type: 2D regions max. thickness:0.2 -Include 2D regionsefault

Click Apply.

I cant see this APPLY key!!!!!!!

Please help thanks Eldoret

Don't feel stupid at all - I had the same problem.

The window size may be too small to show all the available features. You need to stretch the window vertically to be able to see the apply button at the bottom. I'd be embarrassed to tell you how long it took me to realize this!

I hope this solves your problem, otherwise I'm doubly embarrassed posting that I had trouble with it!

Buy a bigger screen or try to increase your font size for the screen - maybe you will get it then Best luck Jan

Wait!!! Don't buy a new screen yet! There's a better way!

Under the preferences menue there is a choice for "Small Screen Layout". You'll have to shut Build down and fire it back up for this switch to take effect (it writes the choice to the settings file).

What it does is shrink the top panel which covers the top of your screen to the left. This makes space enough for the right side panels (Geometry, Domains, etc.) to fit the screen top to bottom. With this extra real estate for the panels, your Apply buttons will all show up.

Build runs best in 1024x768 on a PC. This problem doesn't occur at 1280x1024 or higher.

Hope this helps! Jeff

Would it not have been nicer, if the poor guy could have gone to his boss and claimed that he needed a proper screen (min 19", 21" OK)for his CFD work!

IT departments are strange people, I have a linux cluster with 12 computers, and a dual cpu compaq machine on my desk with a good graphic card and a very good screen. It all cost a lot of $ , BUT I can not get a new mouse - so odd.

Mmmmm!... It is not easy to convince a boss who knows very little about CFD to cough money, money and money yet no results. You see some bosses think that CFD is some sort of MATLAB where solution is immedeate.

I just asked them the other day to buy me P4, after a while I realized that to model multiphase systems I need 1GB RAM. Another one...I thought I am the only one who has a sick mouse!!

Just before I ask for a new screen, let me mention this, I run my simulations on Windows 2000-professional. Jeff, I assume that the 'Preferences ' that you talk about is this one in build, is that correct? In preferences drop down, i can not see the 'small screen option'! Is it a case of another lost key (tab) or where should I find this?

rusaas has advised me to icrease the fonts of the screen. If the screen is small and I increase the fonts, how will they fit in. I am sorry, am not quite an expert in this field, my imagination is that increasing the font size will just clog things more!!

Thanks Eldoret

Thanks Jan. Do not worry. We all make mistakes, I do make a lot.

But what are these figures "1024x768 on a PC" and where do you set this?

Further, I am still looking for the "small screen layout" option under "preference" in Build.

Hmm, I assume you are a beginner to a computer and CFD and playing games on a PC or you are just making fun. I assume you are using a pc :

Right click "on your sick mouse" with the pointer somewhere on the screen. (Dont hit any icons or open windows). Select properties, a new window should pop up, where there is a bar with screen resolution. If your graphic card and monitor supports it select 1280 x 1024 pixels.

I can nor find the small screen layout, I have even used it ones (

Oh no! I hope you know what may result when people speak different languages and assume they are communicating! I had no idea that you were simply talking about the Screen display properties setting and your numbers meant nothing but pixels. How i wish you people had just mentioned the word PIXELS. I thought that those were some numbers with some special meaning in CFX5.6, which I still know almost nothing about.

I have infact been operating with 17" screen at 1024 x 768 pixels. Let me try something higher. Thanks a lot Jan, for your petience, with my ignorance with CFX5.6. Eldoret

Thank you Jan,Fitz and Jeff, and others who took time to read this thread.

The key is found and I am more comfortable with 1152x864 pixels up from 1024 X 768 pixels.

Hi rusaas,

With the screen display properties adjusted to a setting of 1152x864 pixels up from 1024 X 768 pixels, I was able to locate the APPLY key (or TAB, if you like).

However, I never saw the "Small Screen Layout" option.

It seems like I have a huge problem with explaining what I mean, or rather I don't write what I think )) So don't read what I write but what I think!

I thought that you had found the "Small Screen Layout" (

Dont worry Jan. If you think a lot, you are bound to act as most professors do (forget the simple but remember the complex). Eldoret

Narhh, just getting old, my brain even confuses me sometimes. But I am so used to it, so most of the times I know what the meaning is.
