CFX-Post: Area@iso-surface

Hi,

I have a quetion about how to calculate the plane area inside a iso-surface.

I have a jet flow from a nozzle at different timesteps. But I would like to calculate the plane area inside the iso-surface for 20 m/s.

I know where the plane is, but I am unable to get CFX-Post to calculate the area inside the iso- surface.

I am trying to make a session file with cel, to extract the area.

Any ideas on how to do this ???

Thanks in advance.

regards

Peter

Peter, can you define a user surface using the intersection between an isosurface and a plane ? Or can you create a user surface from a contour that is located on the plane and has bounds defined by your iso-surface criteria ? Just a few ideas, no promisses as a collegue is using post at the moment so I can't test them for you ! Bob

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

But how can I create a user surface from the intersection between isosurface and plane.

When I try to create a user surface the only option I have is a boundary list and location. And in the boundary list there is only the outer boundarias for the domain.

Do I have to program it in cel/ccl ??? Hints is welcome.

Peter

Hi Peter,

Go with Bob's second suggestion. You can create a user defined surface as a contour level.

First, create a contour plot on your plane with 2 contour levels and define the min to be very small and the max value equal to your isosurface value.

Now, create a User Surface using the 'From Contour' method and select the appropriate contour and contour level. The User Surface created will now be entirely inside your iso-surface.

Hi

I can seen that since I only have 5.5 installed and have not seen this option. I need to switch to 5.6. Right ?

Yes. Why are you still running 5.5?

Hi,

Company has not upgraded yet.

Hello,

I was just wondering what type of script you used to export the surface area? I am currently trying to do the same.

No need to export. Just use the function calculator and it will give you the surface area of any surface object.
