Default What is Pitch??

Hi All, I am starting to use the CFX5.6. I need to understand the concept of pitch. The CFD5.6 documentation refers me to the Example on Rotor Stator. I have read and run this but I still do not understand. I have got very little (if not zero) Mechanical Engineering background.

I am running my transient simulation now and I can see pitches increasing with time step but I am not sure of the implication of this. Please help.

Regards Anne

Pitch refers to the circumferential width of a circuferentially periodic domain.

In simple terms, it is the size of the pie slice. A pizza sliced into 10 pieces has a pitch of 1/10, whereas a pizza sliced into 12 pieces has a smaller pitch, 1/12. MMmmm, Pizza :-P

When you run a transient rotor stator problem, the pitch you see increasing is the offset of the domain from its initial location, i.e. how far it has rotated about the axis.

Hi JoeCFD, Thanks. You sounded like a trained teacher. That was simple and clear.
