CFX 4.4 coordinate problem!

Hello, everyone,

I am using CFX4.4 to simulate a reactor. I use the Cartesian coordinate in thr pre-process, and analyse with Cylindrical coordinate. I use the post process to analyse the rusult. I do not konw the U V W value is the for the Cylindrical coordinate or for the Cartesian coordinate. I need the urgent help!

If the problem was solved in cylindrical coordinates (CYLINDRICAL option on) then U is the axial, V is the radial, and W is the azmuthal velocity.

Note that to do this, you have to transform the mesh into cylindrical coordinates (slab=wedge), but it sounds like you've gotten that far already.

Hi Jeff, Probably my CFX4.4 memory is a bit rusted now. Are you saying that to use the CYLINDRICAL cordinates you must have the SLAB=WEDGE OPTION? I thought you need to use that option only if it is a cylindrical 2D, which strictly speeking is a 3D with one coordinate with only one cell.

Regards Anne.

Hi, Jeff,

Thank a lot for your quick and good response. My simulation is solved in cylindrical coordinate. When I open the post-processor, the coordinate displayed is still Cylindrical coordinate. I was a little confused. Redards Hx

Yes, that's true.

My CFX4.4 memory is also "unexercised".

I also believe there's a conversion to x-r-Theta in the Build analysis form which converts xyz to said coordinate system if it's built in 3D. You have to watch though, not to cross the theta=pi plane (conversion fails due to atan function).

Velocities in post processor are still maintained in axial, radial and theta components as long as the CYLINDRICAL option is set in the solver.
