For simulating stirred vessels there are special tools in FLUENT (MixSim) and in STAR-CD (MixPert). Are there anything similar to those in CFX? In the CFX website where product CFX-4 not CFX-5 is described, there is an excellent animation file about stirred vessels. Why is it given while describig CFX-4? Does it mean that it could only be done easily by CFX-4? Can the same thing be done using CFX-5.6 or CFX-5.7? Some of my friends are insisting me to use MixSim which I am not interested in and also I don't have access to. Can anybody give me some light in this regard?

Best regards.

Hi,

I am not familiar with MixSim or MixPert, but CFX4 and CFX5 already have multiple frames of reference and many other options used for simulating stirred vessels in the normal package, so a special code for stirred vessels is not required. I think you will find anything you can do with MixSim or MixPert can also be done in CFX4 or CFX5.

MixPert is just an Expert System on top of StarCD. You can run mixing vessel calculations with any of the common codes without additional tools, but there is a lot of experience about this hidden in a tool like Mixpert. So it might help you to get better results faster.

CFX used to have a product called ProMixus (ProMixis?), but I don't know if they sell it anymore. It allowed standard tank sizes, bottom shapes, baffle sizes, and impellers to be quickly assembled and run. However, I think it was based on CFX-4 and may not be defunct. It's worth calling CFX/Ansys to ask.

Looks like mixsim is based on Fluent, so contact your ANSYS rep for further details and prices.

Send a message via Yahoo to GOPINATH87
Create *msh file using fluent's mixsim, import it to Ansys ICEM meshing tool, there you can convert it into a suitable file format which can be read by ansys CFX solver..
