CFX 5.7 on P4 2.4 and AMD Athlon 64 3000+

I did a small test to campare FX 5.7 on P4 2.4 (Intel 845, Win 2000) and AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (NVidia nForce 3, WinXP).

The task was about 100MB in RAM. It takes t1=34m 5.656sec on P4 and t2=26m 5.0 sec on AMD of CPU time.

If you make calculation 2.4GHz*(1+(t1-t2)/t1)=2.96GHz.

So we could see almost the same 3000GHz as the rating of the AMD CPU.

Solver said the options for CPU: For P4: intel_p4.sse2_winnt5.0) using the command:

C:\CFX\CFX-5.7\bin\perllib\cfx5solve.pl -stdout-comms -batch -ccl -

For AMD: (intel_k6_winnt5.1) using the command:

C:\CFX\CFX-5.7\bin\perllib\cfx5solve.pl -stdout-comms -batch -ccl -

Is it possible to obtain more power from AMD Athlon 64?

What precision do you use? Double or single? We tested AMD and got that in case of single precision results were comparable, but when we switched to double P4 was faster.

i845 does not use dual memory channel technolgy, while athlon uses it. Try i875P or 865PE (eg from Asus).

Single....

I obtain a bit more power ath the same CPU frequency by playing a bit with RAM timings. Overlocking in addition CPU to 10%, I obtain in the same came calculation 3.22GHz agalogue comparing to P4 2.4 (see the first post)
