Advice for fan cooling needed

Hi,

I am trying to simulate the cooling of a power supply by a fan. I just started using CFX hence I am having trouble to input the fan curve in order to obtain the proper volume flow rate through the fan. Can anyone give me some advices?

Thanks in advance,

CK

Hi,

Are you trying to model the fan using a momentum source?

Hi Glenn, Yes I was planning to use a momentum source to simulate the fan. Is there a different approach?

Hi,

A momentum source is often the best method where you don't want to model flow in the fan itself. As for making the flow follow the fan operating curve, that can be implemented using a 1D CEL interpolation and some CEL expressions.

Other options besides momentum sources include: 1) modelling the fan in detail 2) if the upstream or downstream side of the fan is not important you can model the fan using a boundary condition with a specified mass flow rate or pressure.
