I just get the CDs of CFX-5.7.1 from my teacher. His PC is the license server. He has not problem to use CFX-5.7.1. He said that after he installed, CFX asked him to specify the path to license file. However CFX doesn't ask me this question. I have installed CFX, ANSYS license manger, but no one ask me for the license file. So I can't use CFX now. Is there anyone know why? Thank you very much for your kind consideration.

you need to put a copy of the license file in the directory named "licensing"

This is just a quick guide... You require a copy of the license file on your PC and have the ANSYS license manager point to that license file. You should also ensure that your computer is able connect to the license server (a simple ping test should be able to tell.)

1. I can connect to the license server without any problem. 2. Now I have 'license.dat' in the folder name 'licensing'. 3. When I try to specify the license file in 'ANSLIC_ADMIN', I get the dialogbox say "'The ANSYS FLEXlm license manager service is not installed on this machine. Therefore, the 'Install the License File' option is not applicable. No action was taken."
Do anyone have more suggestion? Thank you very much for your kind consideration. Atit |

Ok, assuming you have installed the license mgr software properly, can you launch CFX on the license server machine?
The license.dat can be in any folder you wish as long as you are pointing to the correct place on the license manager machine. This is controlled by the ANSYSLIC_DIR environemnt variable and is usally set to C:\Program Files\Ansys Inc\Shared Files\Licensing on a Windows machine. So if you are getting the error above, the lic mgr is not installed properly on the machine you are trying to choose. Cheers, Derrek |

1. CFX on the license manager can work without any problem. 2. On my PC, ANSYSLIC_DIR is set to C:\Program Files\Ansys Inc\Shared Files\Licensing too. Do I have to change 'C:' to the server IP? Thank you for your consideration.

Now I can use CFX-5.7.1. I install CFX License Manager which is the one component on CFX-5.7 CD. That's it! I do not know why it is not included on CFX-5.7.1 CDs if it is necessary???? By the way, thank you everyone to contribute yours to me.
