HI:

I am very new in CFX and I need to simulate a pebble bed reactor by using cfx5.7.1. I think I have to go for porous media approach but I don't know how to simulate porous media in cfx. Could you please provide me some information regarding this.

Thanks a lot in advance.

Hi,

Take a look at Tutorial 10 "Flow in a Catalytic Converter", where the catalytic converter is modelled as a porous media.

Regards,

Rui

HI Rui:

Thanks a lot. I have seen Tutorial 10, they used directional loss model. Could you please inform me how can I use Darcy Model instate of directional loss model?

Thanks a lot...

Hi,

If you go to CFX-5.7.1 Master Index and look for Darcy's law, you'll find a link to CFX-5 Solver Theory, Basic Solver Capability Theory, page 57. If you search the word "Darcy" in the documentation pdfs, you'll also find some information in CFX-5 Solver Modeling, Basic Capabilities Modeling, page 27.

Take also a look at this post: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forum/cfx_....cgi?read=6013 and to the replies to it.

If you have access to the CFX-Community web site, take a look at: http://www-waterloo.ansys.com/cfxcom...a_in_cfx-5.htm

I think in CFX-5.7.1 (and probably CFX-5.7) there are some options which weren't available in CFX-5.6, but I'm not sure. I can't help you further as I never work with porous media. Regards,

Rui

Hi Hossain,

You might also look into doing this as a multi-phase model. There are specific models for packed bed reactors in CFX.
