Harpoon/CFX5
Does any one know how to export a mesh from Harpoon to CFX5 ? I created a mesh in Harpoon 1.4,but I when I choose export as CFX, I got a *.stl file which CFX cant't read

Re: Harpoon/CFX5
Hi,
Have a look at the import options in CFX-Pre, and the export options in Harpoon. Isn't it just a matter of find one format they both can handle? Also you can import stl files into ICEM and convert them into a ICEM CFX mesh. Glenn Horrocks |
Re: Harpoon/CFX5
Hi, Oko and Glenn
Today I just got a trial version of Harpoon and took a quick look at the tutorial. It seems a nice meshing tool. I was just wondering how to define the inlet and outlet boundary in Harpoon if I want to generate volume mesh for a reactor. Could you please simply describe the procedures? Thanks! Jian |
Re: Harpoon/CFX5
I have the same trial CD, mesh looks good but I am yet to export it to CFX5 nor can I read the *.stl file created into ICEM-CFD, perhaps some one can give away how to do it.

Re: Harpoon/CFX5
Hi,
What is the problem with importing STL files? I have done it, but not from Harpoon. After import mesh/STL you will probably need to do a check mesh and allow it to generate the outer surface mesh on the volume elements. You then manually move the surface elements into a seperate family, then make different families for the boundary conditions. Regards, Glenn Horrocks |
Re: Harpoon/CFX5
Glen, Please be more specific abou 'do a check mesh', I am not sure I understand that part. Thanks.

Re: Harpoon/CFX5
The tutorial of Harpoon is too simple. Does Harpoon have additional tutorial materials?
Thanks! |
Re: Harpoon/CFX5
Maybe Harpoon has a website or some publications.

Re: Harpoon/CFX5
Hi,
Look under Edit mesh/Check Mesh. It then shows a box, untick all the options and make sure you have "Uncovered faces" ticked and apply. It then detects the uncovered faces, choose fix to automatically generate the surface mesh and choose a family to stick them into. Glenn Horrocks |
