Hi All

I have some kind of huge ducts with some valves and nozzles attached to it. high pressure air is passing through these ducts and they are generating some noises and I want to compute the noise sources and see how it is propagated outside the ducts to far field in terms of Sound pressure levels.
My doubt is whether CFX is capable of doing the propagation part as well. Do they have some acoustics solvers for this ? Kindly let me know.
Thanks in advance.

Yes, CFX can model noise propagation but it is like getting a Ferrari to run down to the shops and pick up some milk - it is not really a suitable tool for the job.

CFX is a full Navier stokes solver, which can cover acoustic waves. But if all you care about is acoustic propagation you just need a linear acoustic solver. A linear acoustic solver will be hundreds of times faster and easier to use. An example package is SYSNOISE.

I understand SYSNOISE can be coupled to CFX. Then you can model the noise generation and near field in CFX and couple it to the far field model in SYSNOISE. I have never done it, but I have heard it has been done.

Dear Glenn

Thanks for your message. But is SYSNOISE an open source software or ?
