2D in CFX

Hello All,
I am attempting a 2D model with CFX. I am aware that CFX does not include a 2D solver but an equivalent solution can be achieved by using an extruded mesh, 1 element wide and imposing symmetry plane on both the "bottom" (initial) face and the "top" face. I have followed the above but the results are quite a few magnitudes higher than those presented by a 3D simulation. I can only think that perhaps the above approach is not correct, please advise on possible methods. Kind regards, Arnaldo |

Hi,
If you are specifying your inlets as mass flow rate then you may have to scale the flows down to the size of the inlet rectangle or wedge. That is, if you are doing an axisymmetric flow with 1 m^3/s flow rate and you have a 5 degree wedge then your model should be scaled down to have 5/360=0.01389 m^3/s flow rate. Glenn Horrocks |
