Default Physical size of geometry in DesignModeler

Hi

I'm trying to import a IGES solid (generated in Rhino) into DesignModeler 9.0, but runs into the problem that if the physical size is above 1000 m, then DesignModeler will not import correctly (creates surfaces instead of solids). If I scale it down to say 900 meters it will import without problems.

Did the programmes think that no geometry is above 1000 m. ? And why can't you select km or miles as units ?

I tried to play around with tolerances without any luck. Also I have tried to scale it up within DesignModeler. However, when it goes above 1000 m. the program makes an error say that the model exseeds DesignModeler size limith

Is there anybody who knows a workaround ?

Best regards

Michael

Please refer to the DM manual. It has stated the fact, but just did not give a reason.

Thanks

I did not look in the manual, because I was sure this was a undocumented bug. - apparently not!

Maybe you can cheat DM by scaling your model with a factor, e.g., 1/1000. Basically, DM will see the physical size of your geometry is about 1m. After you get a mesh for this model, you can scale mesh back to its original unit. However, doing this may loss the details of small feature in your model.

Aaaahhh that worked !!

Thanks!

Although I havent tested it all the way, I had no problem scaling the mesh within PRE and defining domain and so on.

I appriciate your help.

Yes, DesignModeller can do scaling.

From memory it is an option under "Body operations".

Hey,

Firstly you are in the CFX Forum and not FLUENT/ANSYS Meshing & Geometry. If you want to get a better answer you should post there.

Secondly you should try to build that and see if it works. Best way to know.
