Hi... I thought CFX Version 5 & above employed unstructured mesh. Only CFX4 used structured mesh for solver.

Yes, I think you're right TB. CFX can handle hex mesh, what doesn't mean it is a structured mesh. CFX-5 and above uses the unstructured mesh aproach, as you can read in the Documentation.

A while ago there was a quite good post, on the Main Forum, about strucured and unstructred meshes and structured and unstructured solvers. Take a look, I think it is quite interesting: http://www.cfd-online.com/Forum/main...cgi?read=39770

I missed that post. Thanks for pointing that out,Rui.

So according to Mani's definition, CFX10 used unstructured data on unstructured (either hex or tet type) mesh. It seems like unstructured solver may handle structured mesh in less efficient way, although I'm not sure the reason behind it.

People often confuse structured and unstructured as being analogous to hexahedral and tetrahedral. This is absolutely not the case. CFX-5 will ONLY deal with unstructured meshes. It can read structured meshes (CFX-4), but they will be dealt with as if they are unstructured.

in fact i feel that the handling in unstructured way is much better because for unstructured grid the data structure is pointer based and for structured grid (usually) its index based.

CFX is a usstructured solver, u can creat a structured mesh , but its saving format will be unstructured.
