Tetra meshing example

I am a beginner in CFX and in the process of going through some ICEM Tetra mesh tutorials.

While trying to define the global mesh parameter on one of the CFX supplied example geometries (sphereCube, I found the following warning

ic_geo_get_family_param: can't get family params on ORFN Warning: can't set family params on family "ORFN"

I tried different geometries and even on a simple cube. But the result was the same. Does anyone know what this warning is for and how can I get rid of it???

First thing first... What version are you referring to? There're quite some bugs in earlier version. Try reloading ICEM and the error may sometimes disappear like magic...

Hi TB, The version is ICEM CFD 5.0. But restarting doesn't seem to have an effect!

Unfortunately, that's the version I found most bugs existed when you do meshing. You may find the problem disappear in Version 10.

Try recreating Ophan part: OFRN and see if this will help. I'll suggest using the latest version if possible.

Re: Tetra meshing example

Thanks TB....Although I don't know how/why the ORFN part is there, to begin with. All I did is to load a geometry file (SphereCube.tin), repair the geometry as prescribed, and then apply the global mesh size. So where did the ORFN come from? I thought ORFN family comes up only while creating blocks for hex meshing (sorry for my ignorance!). Anyway probably the solution is to use version 10.0, as you say!!!

Re: Tetra meshing example

If I remember correctly, ICEM used Octree approach for tet mesh generation. It created a volume of elements that covered your entire geometry and then cut off those outside the boundary. These unused elements are put in ORFN part.

ORFN is created automatically by mesh generator. You can refer to user manual for more precise description.
