A quick question for CFX-mesh 9.0

Hi all,

From the tree view of CFX-Mesh 9.0, the option of 'Inflation' is available for use. It's ok when I inflate a number of surfaces in one go, but it seems I am not able to distinguish these surfaces. For example, I want 5 layers for 1 surface and 10 layers for other surfaces I want to inflate, I just can't do it. When I 'insert' inflation boundaries, I can only select locations. It seems that I can 'insert' different inflation boundaries (at different locations/surfaces), but only one set of 'inflation' parameters are applied to all the inflation boundaries. Anyone can give me some highlights about this?

Thanks a lot, Regards

Forrest

Unfortunately, the feature you are looking for is not even in CFX-Mesh 10. I doubt it will show up in CFX-Mesh 11.

oops! Thank you very much, longbow, so I should stop wondering then. Cheers, Forrest

Hi,

You can do this using ICEM. If you have the advanced meshing option give that a try.

It may not be a bad idea to make a request to CFX. The more requests they get, the better chance they will implement it.

Re: A quick question for CFX-mesh 9.0

Hi Glenn, Thanks for your comments. I do have ICEM CFD 5.0 available for use. I was suggested to generate a surface mesh and then extrude it one cell for the third direction. But when I generate the surface mesh I am not able to add inflation for it. Also the 2D domain I am modelling includes multiple fluid-solid domains, and the ratio of the largest edge and teh smallest edge can be over 8000, the curvatures are very difficult to manage when I try to mesh it use blocking. By the way, if I do use the advanced option for Mesh Prisms, is it possible to add it onto a surface mesh, then I extrude it?

Thanks again, Forrest

Hi,

You will need to be very careful meshing a geometry with such large geometry scales. I recommend you do plenty of examples to get confident with the mesher before attempting this geometry.
