How to plot vel vector & contour on same plane?
 

Hi,

I read some papers that plot velocity vector and pressure contour of a cross section of a symmetrical geometry on the same sheet (half vector plot & half contour plot). Is it possible to do that in CFX-Post V10?

Yes.

Create both the Contour and the Vector. I'm not sure, but I think when you apply symmetry it keeps the original one, so the solution is to rotate either the Contour or the Vector 180 degrees around an axis that is the intersection of the symmetry plane and your plane.

Thanks, Rui. I'm NOT using symmetry boundary condition. When I activated Contour & Vector plots, they both appeared on the entire section (I only want vector appeared on left halves & contour appeared on right halves).

I do this manually in photoshop and it's a time consuming process. I wonder if anyone has other tips to do this in POST straight away.

Hi

Sorry if this seems a bit obvious, but have you tried creating two planes; one which covers the left side, and another which covers the right side. Then draw the contour on one, and the vector on the other.

Hi.... I've already tried this method using the rectangular plane bound option. However, I can't get a plane that cover only the left or right side. I'm using 3point method to create this inclined plane. Would you mind to tell me how to do that if a rectangular inclined plane cover a width of (-0.1,0.1) & a height of (-0.3, 0.45)? Can you get a plane with width of (-0.1,0) & height of (-0.3, 0.45)?

Really grateful if anyone can suggest anything about this. I contacted the authors of the papers and they used techplot and other tools for image processing.

Hi It may be an idea to try sending in an image of your geometry or at least the section you are trying to create the plot for. Then people may better understand the issue you are facing ?

I think you have at least two choices.

You can create a clipping plane which is normal to the boundary in question, half way along it.

Or, if the boundary condition is at an odd angle create a coordinate frame which is in plane with the boundary condition and make a 3 line contour plot of x, y, or z on the plane (in the new coordinate system). Then create a user surface using the contour plot (above or below options are available)

The easiest is probably to use two sample planes instead of a cut plane for your locators. With sample planes you have a full control over the extents. Also, vector plots will come our nicely spaced. Alternatively, you can bound slice planes using the same bounding options as for sample planes.
