Outlet boundary condition

Hello.

I have a simple question regarding the outlet mass flow rate boundary condition. In ANSYS 19.2, I see two options regarding mass flow rate outlet area.

First one is as specified and second option is total for all sectors.

So, If I simulate a single impeller domain (Total 7) and apply rotational periodicity, then which option should be selected.

Like for total outlet mass flow rate of 1 kg/s and 7 sectors, should I specify it 1 kg/s for total sectors or 1/7 kg/s for a single specified area?

Confused because I am facing difficulty in interpreting mass flow rate in CFX post. Whether it is for single domain or total?

Either option is valid. It is all about your preferences.

Some engineers like to talk about "machine mass flow" (design parameter in some cases) regardless of the number of sectors (unknown quantity in the preliminary design)

You can then focus your simulations on the design quantity, and let the simulations adjust themselves during the design iterations, i.e. the optimal number of sectors might even be a solution to the problem.
