Fluent and CFX to share the same licensing manager
Hello
Ansys Sales guy told me that ansys, fluent and cfx will share the same licensing scheme So you can install both software and each will look into into the same pot for avaialable licenses. They say support engineer are not happy as they will have to learn both code and be able to support both. What do you think of this arrangement? Thank you, Roger |
Re: Fluent and CFX to share the same licensing man
Hi,
ANSYS uses flexlm. I have no idea what Fluent uses, but flexlm is very common across the industry and I would not be surprised if it uses flexlm also. If Fluent already uses flexlm then they already share the same license manager, if not then it makes sense to shift across to flexlm. Flexlm is a industry leader in software licensing utilities. Sounds like a sensible move to me. Glenn Horrocks |
Re: Fluent and CFX to share the same licensing man
While this is plausible, nothing of the sort has been planned. You may have misinterpreted what your sales rep told you. As for support, it isn't much of a problem; where necessary, CFX support would go to CFX people and Fluent support to Fluent people. Over time, there would be knowledge gained by staff on both codes and more resources could be shared. Most support questions relate to 'how' to model something anyhow and are really code independant.

Re: Fluent and CFX to share the same licensing man
As I know Fluent also uses FlexLM. I think ANSYS should switch from fluent licensing daemon to common ansys daemon like it was for CFX or ICEM.

Re: Fluent and CFX to share the same licensing man
I would strongly encourage this merge. We have 4 CFX licenses and 1 Fluent. For particular situations it would be very convenient to use a CFX license for a Fluent run.....

Re: Fluent and CFX to share the same licensing man
Sharing the same License Manager is not the same as sharing license keys! While is seems probable that the ANSYS License Manager can be used to administer CFX, Fluent, ICEM and ANSYS license keys, it does not mean that a CFX license key would suddenly let you run Fluent or visa-versa. Mike

Re: Fluent and CFX to share the same licensing man
I understand, but as Fluent and CFX are owned by ANSYS, an arrangement should be not be too difficult. And as they use the same licencemanger, same sort of file, only a different port number....
