Recently installed ANSYS 2020 R2 products on a Windows Server 2019 Standard machine, which I access using Remote Desktop Connection. CFX has black borders in the GUI (see image), which has never happened before. ANSYS SpaceClaim, Meshanical, Workbench and DesignModeler are all OK. This ANSYS install was the first since R19.2 as we bypassed ANSYS 2019.

Checked the ANSYS Customer Portal and Knowledge Resources: Solutions #2061743 says to add the Environment Variable QT_OPENGL=desktop. I did this but the problem still happens. Maybe I should try again but does it have to be a User Variable (I'm the only CFX User) or System Variable (co-workers do not use CFX) and must the computer be restarted for it to take effect? My IT Dept. says that the drivers are all up to date. Contacted my ANSYS Channel Partner tech support but they could not resolve the problem.

Does anyone else have this issue and know how to fix it?

Thanks

Have you tried this? Helped for me a few times now with display errors. Good luck.

Mine is black until I adjust the window size. (The part that has the black borders)

@AtoHM. After I selected Stereo Mode and restarted CFX-Pre it said Stereo Mode was not available so I switched back to Normal Mode.

The hyperlink to the other post and the comment about the CFXPreferences.ccl file. There is no Stereo option in that file for me. But deleting the CFXPreferences.ccl file and then opening CFX-Pre fixed the problem once. But then CFX remakes the new CFXPreferences.ccl file then the black borders reappear. Then I have to delete the CFXPreferences.ccl file again. So the existence of the CFXPreferences.ccl is the problem. The CFXPreferences.ccl file is shown in the image. Are the WindowX or Viewer Height etc. values wrong?

Excuse the confusion, I didn't want to suggest to switch stereo/mono, just the thread topic and how he solved it by deleting the file. But you tried that aswell, so here we go.

The WindowX-Entry seems to be belonging to the launcher, not Pre.
I guess there is no "wrong" with these dimensions, they just have to fit your screen. No idea why they would be false in the first place especially when cfx generates the file from scratch, but have you tried playing with these values? Maybe you can adjust them so it fits your screen.

@AtoHM, thanks for the reply.

It seems that it can be corrected by dragging the partition between the Outline and View windows in the GUI.

Is that what you were saying @evcelica? If so thanks for that.

Yes, That is what I was saying. I knew it was difficult to explain correctly.
Simple fix once you know what to do.

I'm getting a full black screen in View 1 in CFX 2021 R1. This time moving the partition does not fix the problem. Is anyone else having this issue? Thanks.

I had the same issue, but there is a Nvidia RDP exe to install from their website to use CFX over RDP on Win10 with GeForce GTX graphics cards.

Go to https://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-opengl-rdp (you need to register). Then the exe to install is: nvidiaopenglrdp.exe

Hope this helps.

There is a older query regarding black screens over RDP. Not sure, but maybe this can help as well.

Thanks, I set that Environment Variable and it made the screen partially black (not fully black, so that's progress!) and then dragged the partition to resolve the issue - just like I had to do above in the thread for a previous CFX version.

My company a few months ago bought a new server for our ANSYS work so the graphics drivers are all up-to-date.

This, like many other issues in ANSYS, I guess will not be resolved.
