When opening CFD Post I'm getting the following error:

"Application Error in CFD-Post: ERROR
No locators provided in Location parameter."

I'm still able to post process the results, but I haven't had any success in correcting the error. Has anybody seen this before, and how do I correct it?

The error message looks pretty clear to me. You have a CFD-Post object which has no location object associated with it. You can get this with state files or session files where objects which existed in previous simulations have now disappeared.

Simply give the unhappy object a location object and it will be happy.

could you plz let me know what u refer to as state files or session files? also could u plz elaborate on how to give the "unhappy object" a location object?

thx - appreciate it

You had better describe what are doing to get the error then.

So I assume this is a Fluent simulation you are trying to open in CFD-Post.

What is the model? What physics does it include?

There appears to be something fundamentally wrong here. You are crashing the software so either your fluent files are corrupt enough that it can crash CFD-Post, or you have found a bug in CFD-Post. Even if your files are corrupt you would hope CFD-Post was rugged enough to be able to reject the corrupt file and stay alive.

So I would report this to ANSYS support as a possible bug in CFD-Post.

Have you tried checking the assigned locations to any items under User Locations and Plots. Maybe what happened was at your initial post-processing you created say a contour plot that was assigned to a certain LOCATION. Then maybe you did some modifications to say your boundary conditions in the Setup causing the deletion of that LOCATION previously assigned to the contour plot. Hence the error keeps on popping out unless these locations were updated.

I had the same error and found how to fix it. Because you changed the folder location or renamed it, workbench cannot find the file location assigned before. So, what you need to do is to find the *.cst file (in workbench folder) and open it with notepad. The assigned folder location or name is stored somewhere in this file, just scroll down to find it. So, change the name of location as it was before.

The solution for this is, open a new "CFD POST" and export the data to the new CFD Post and the problem solved. No more error message. Stay Happy

Hi Guys, I am having issue with User Locations and Plots under Post Processing in ANSYS Fluent. I mean I want to plot a graph of velocity against Y+.

But I am not able to do so as UNDER POST PROCESSING > INSERT > CHART > DATA SERIES > LOCATION > USER LOCATIONS AND PLOTS

I got only streamlines. Hence, I am unable to plot anything. If anybody knows the error, please let me know. Your response will be highly appreciated. Thank you!

(This has nothing to do with the famous error "No locators provided in Location parameter." So, ideally you should start a new query instead of hijacking this thread.)

Nevertheless.........
- You say you have a Fluent file. If you want to visualise YPlus in CFD-Post, you have to tell Fluent explicitly to save this variable. It is not saved by default.
- YPlus is a variable on a wall. Streamlines are in the bulk. These won't match, so you won't be able to plot Yplus on a streamline.
- you'd better create lines or polylines in your domain and use these as user location to plot variables in a graph. Usually these make more sense than using streamlines in a plot. Mostly that give an information overload.

The solution for this is, open a new "CFD POST" and export the data to the new CFD Post and the problem solved. No more error message. Stay Happy
Hi rajsundarkj.

This error pops up quite often on my screen. This mostly happens because when I create a new mesh with new boundaries and new names, then in Pre I delete old names, which as a result no longer exist in the results file, making Post to crash when loading a state file ("Severe error. Post is in an unstable state").
I can repair it manually by editing the state file before loading. But your solution sounds different. Can you explain what you exactly do? What do you mean by "export the data to the new post"?

Cheers, Gert-Jan

Hey Gert,

Just thought to let you know! I tried what you said - I created lines at outlet and at inlet. It is working now. Thanks so much mate!

So I don't know if anyone is still having this issue but I found a pretty simple fix that worked for me. I right clicked on the results tab in work bench. When the options list opened up there was a selection called "reset". I "reset" the results section then "updated" it and presto, no more issues and I was able to get into CFD post without any issues.

Hope this helps!
